When father and son, Moti and Amit Ezra, got into the car on the morning of October 7, they knew only one thing: Nitzan needed their help.
A few moments earlier, she called to say that terrorists were attacking people at the party in Kibbutz Reim. "I'm hiding in a shelter with a lot of other people, there are shots being fired all the time. You have to come now to save me!" The frightened Nitzan whisper-shouted on the phone. She knew she had to keep quiet so that her hiding place would not be discovered.
Moti and Amit drove full speed down the road in their big van. For Nitzan, every minute was a matter of life and death, and they were on their way to save her.
While driving, they come across a police checkpoint. "There is no way past here," the policeman stopped them, "this is a danger zone." Moti understood that he would need to improvise. "We are from the YASAM special forces team and we have come as reinforcements!" he said with confidence. Luckily, the policeman believed him and let them pass.
As they approached Nitzan's hiding place, a different group of young people came out from among the trees, scared and begging them to help get them to safety.
Moti and Amit looked at each other. What should they do? Save these young people or continue to drive towards Nitzan? Everyone was in great danger; how can you decide?
"Abba," says Amit, "let's help these people first. We will do this good deed and then continue towards Nitzan. With the merit of this good deed, it might help us get Nitzan to safety as well."
The young people got into the car. Moti's heart was pounding as he drove away from where Nitzan was hiding so that he could bring all these people to safety. “What will be?” He thought.
Ten minutes later they arrived at a safe spot and the young people got out of the vehicle with great relief as they were transferred to the IDF soldiers' care. Moti and Amit did not delay and began to drive again, south to Nitzan. The bullets whistled over their heads all the while as they drove but miraculously not a single bullet hit them!
They managed to reach the MIGUNIT - rocket shelter - where Nitzan was hiding and found her waiting for them, safe and sound.
Thirty young men and women were saved that day with the help of Moti and Amit. Nitzan knows that her father and brother are true heroes and would go to the end of the world for her.
